Messy Play Resources & Equipment

Messy play involves supervised hands-on exploration using suitable materials and tools for activities such as pouring, scooping, mixing, modelling, sand play, water play and mark making.

Suitability depends on the individual product and activity. Check the stated age recommendation, ingredients, piece sizes and warnings, and supervise children appropriately.

Review the pack contents, quantity, age guidance, ingredients or materials, preparation instructions, warnings, storage requirements and cleaning guidance.

Use suitable aprons and washable or disposable surface protection. Check the product information for staining or colour-transfer warnings and follow its cleaning instructions.

Only use or store equipment outdoors when its individual product guidance confirms it is suitable. Consider drainage, weather, ground conditions and safe storage.

Follow the instructions for each product because cleaning methods vary by material. Do not immerse products unless the guidance permits it, and dry and store equipment as directed.

Contents vary. Check the product listing to see what is included and whether water, containers, tools or other materials need to be supplied separately.

Follow the supervision guidance supplied with the product. Adults should prepare the activity, manage access to materials and supervise children according to their age and needs.
