Three Bear Family Sort, Pattern & Play Activity Set is a versatile early maths resource for children aged 3 years and over, combining colourful bear counters, sorting bowls, pattern cards, activity cards, dice and a spinner. The familiar three-size bear family makes counting and classification inviting, while six colours provide multiple attributes for sorting, matching, sequencing and simple data activities. A storage tub keeps the substantial classroom set organised.
Good maths manipulatives can be used at many levels, and this set grows with the learner. Children may begin by naming colours and placing bears into bowls, then progress to comparing sizes, copying repeating patterns, counting sets and following rule-based games. Because the bears vary by both size and colour, adults can change the challenge without changing the resource.
Moving counters one at a time supports accurate counting and one-to-one correspondence. Sorting by colour, size or a combination of attributes develops logical classification. Copying and extending patterns helps children recognise structure and predict what comes next. Dice, spinner and activity cards add turn-taking, number recognition and the opportunity to explain choices using mathematical language.
The bear counters work equally well for teacher-led activities, independent provision and imaginative family play. Children can follow the pattern cards, invent their own sequences, make simple graphs in the sorting bowls or use bears as counters in number stories. Six bowls and a generous quantity of counters make the set suitable for shared use.
Sort the bears into bowls by colour, then repeat the task by size and discuss how the groups changed. Copy a pattern card and cover the final bear, asking the child to predict it. Roll a die to decide how many bears to collect, or use the spinner to choose a property. Older learners can make and describe a simple pictogram with the counters.
Not suitable for children under 3 years due to small parts. Adult supervision is recommended. Count and store the small pieces after each activity.
