The Tactile Messy Play Sensory Kit brings together three different materials for hands-on exploration: Gelli Play 50g, Glow 3-in-1 Putty and Magic Snow 12g. It offers a varied starting point for children who enjoy investigating texture, moving materials with their hands and noticing how different substances respond. Each component gives the session a different physical focus, from manipulating putty to preparing water-activated materials with adult help.
Gelli Play is mixed with water according to its own instructions to create a gooey material for handling and exploring. Children can notice how it moves when gently scooped or allowed to slide from a suitable tool. Magic Snow also uses water, expanding into a snow-like material that can be observed and compared with its starting form. Preparing these components separately helps children see what changes and keeps the different materials available for comparison.
The putty offers a different experience because it can be squeezed, stretched and moulded by hand. Children can try making a small mound, pulling it into a longer shape or pressing it flat, following the instructions supplied with the product. These movements provide opportunities for controlled finger and hand use. Adults can introduce descriptive words such as stretchy, soft, wet or crumbly when those words match what the child actually notices.
For a home activity, place a small amount of one material in a suitable tray and let the child explore at their own pace. In a nursery or classroom, separate work areas can make it easier to compare textures and talk about observations. Children do not need to touch every material: watching an adult demonstrate or using a suitable separate tool can be another way to participate.
The Tactile Messy Play Sensory Kit is intended for supervised material exploration, with preparation and cleaning guided by the individual packs. Trays, tools and water are not listed as included. Styles may vary, so check each component's packaging for its specific age guidance and instructions before setting up the activity.
Prepare Gelli Play and Magic Snow separately using the quantities and method printed on their packs. Use the putty according to its own instructions. Keeping the materials separate allows children to compare how they feel and move without changing their intended use.
Invite children to describe a texture, demonstrate a movement or compare two small samples. Ask open questions such as “What happened when you added water?” or “How did you make that shape?” Manipulating materials provides fine motor practice, while comparing and describing observations creates opportunities for early scientific language.
This combination offers a range of textures in one kit, including putty manipulation and water-activated exploration. It allows adults to introduce one material at a time and adapt the session to the child's interests without requiring a complex activity plan.
Adult supervision is required. These materials are not food and must not be swallowed. Keep away from mouths and eyes, wash hands after use and protect surfaces. Follow each pack's preparation, storage and disposal instructions; do not assume materials can be poured down a drain. Clean spills promptly and discard contaminated material.
