Bring visual interest to a learning area with the Images In Nature Playmat range. These polyester playmats show photographic scenes and patterns that can become starting points for role play, observation and conversation. Choose one of 31 theme-and-size combinations, from pebble and woodland images to coastal scenes, everyday surfaces and space. Each mat has non-slip rubber backing and is supplied in the selected specification. This listing is a choice of individual mats, not a complete set of all themes. Check the option's dimensions carefully before ordering, because the range contains three different sizes.

Choose the theme and its actual size

Each theme is offered in one stated size. Large options measure 1000 × 1000mm, Giant options measure 1500 × 1000mm and Supergiant options measure 2000 × 1500mm. These are different footprints, so measure the intended area and choose the option that fits your plans. A theme cannot automatically be ordered in every size. The selection names identify the exact combination available, allowing you to match the printed image and its dimensions with your planned activity rather than relying on a general size description for the whole range.

Large square mats: 1m × 1m

The Large group includes Black & White Rain, Bread, Bricks, Shells, Water Drops, Wood Grain, Barn and City Scape. Each measures 1000 × 1000mm. These square designs bring a range of visual patterns and settings into a defined floor area. Children might look at curves in a shell picture, compare marks on a wood-grain image or discuss what they notice in the city scene. Choose an image that gives the group something useful to explore, keeping any additional props appropriate to the children and the activity.

Giant mats: 1.5m × 1m

Giant themes include Logs, Sand, Frost, Pebbles, Grass, Leaves, Waterfall, Palm Tree, Windy Day, Lagoon, Moon, Rust, Cobblestones, Stable, Black & White Piano, Pool, Straw, Forest Floor and Beach. Every Giant option measures 1500 × 1000mm. The rectangular format gives a shared visual setting for observations or small world activities. Select one design that connects with your planned topic, or let a familiar picture prompt questions and imagined events. The photograph is printed artwork rather than a supply of the natural material it depicts.

Supergiant mats: 2m × 1.5m

Paradise, Desert Island, Playground and Space are the Supergiant options, each measuring 2000 × 1500mm. Their larger printed area needs more room than the other sizes, including space around the edges for participants and access. A group might use a scene as the background for an imagined journey or discuss what is happening in the photograph. The larger footprint does not guarantee a particular seating capacity. Consider the children, the activity and the surrounding furniture when deciding how the mat will be used in your setting.

Start a story with a place

A picture of a woodland floor, a coast or a planet can give children a starting point for an invented story. With suitable separately purchased figures, they might decide who visits the place, what happens there and how a character gets home. An adult can introduce a short invitation and let the children develop the idea. The scene remains fixed while the events change. This can be useful when a practitioner wants a visible backdrop without prescribing one game or requiring a complete themed toy set.

Look for shapes, colours and patterns

Photographic images offer details to point at, compare and describe. A pebble scene might invite discussion of shapes, a grain pattern could prompt children to follow a line, and a weather-themed image might encourage them to say what they notice. Ask open questions and allow different responses. The sensory focus here is visual: printed shells are not supplied shells and a water image is not a wet surface. Avoid expecting the mat to reproduce the textures, sounds or movement of the subject shown in the photograph.

Connect a picture with a wider topic

The supplier suggests using these images to introduce discussion of habitats, animals, coastlines, geography, weather and patterns. Select a relevant theme and bring suitable factual books or teaching resources into the activity when children ask questions. An adult can distinguish what is visible in the photograph from what the group is imagining. The mat offers a prompt, rather than a complete lesson or factual reference. Its educational value depends on the conversation, resources and support introduced around the children's interests.

Create a defined play area

A mat can mark out the setting for an activity within a larger room. A practitioner might place a selected design beside low storage and introduce a few resources associated with the image. Keep surrounding routes clear and leave enough room for children and adults to approach the activity. A visual boundary is a way to organise the space, not a physical barrier. Check that the chosen mat sits securely on the floor before use and adjust the setup if edges or nearby furniture interfere with access.

Support individual and shared exploration

One child can take time to notice details or invent a story, while a small group can share observations and negotiate what happens next. Adults can model a relevant word, repeat a child's idea and give another child an opportunity to contribute. Pointing and observation can be useful responses alongside speech. Adjust props, pace and group size to the children participating. Photographic playmats offer opportunities for language and imagination without promising a specific developmental result or requiring everyone to engage in the same way.

Polyester surface and rubber backing

Each mat is made from durable polyester with non-slip rubber backing. Check stability on the intended surface and follow the finished product's supplied care and handling instructions. Do not assume machine washing, outdoor suitability or wet-use compatibility from the scene pictured. Provide appropriate supervision and check the separate guidance for any toys or other props introduced. The mat's photograph is a flat printed image rather than raised scenery. It does not include the items, figures or furniture used to demonstrate possible activities.

Order one selected specification

Please allow up to four weeks for delivery when planning a classroom topic or preparing a learning space. Confirm your selected theme and size before adding it to your order: Large is 1m × 1m, Giant is 1.5m × 1m and Supergiant is 2m × 1.5m. One mat in that specification is supplied. Lifestyle images demonstrate selected examples from the range; they do not mean all themes arrive together. Choose the image and footprint that support the play, observations and conversations you want to introduce.

Features and benefits

  • 31 theme-and-size choices: Select one individual mat from the range. Themes are tied to their stated sizes, so check the option name carefully; this listing does not supply all 31 designs or offer every theme in every size.
  • Three confirmed footprints: Large measures 1000 × 1000mm, Giant 1500 × 1000mm and Supergiant 2000 × 1500mm. Measure your area and allow room beyond the edges for the activity, participants and access around the mat.
  • Photographic visual prompts: Scenes and patterns provide details children can notice and describe. Compare a printed shape, point out a colour or discuss a feature without implying the picture supplies real natural materials, water or sound.
  • Imaginative-play possibilities: Use a selected scene as the setting for characters and events invented by children. Suitable separately purchased figures can support a short journey or shared story, with adults helping extend ideas when useful.
  • Topic-led discussion: Habitat, weather, coastline and pattern themes can prompt questions. Bring appropriate factual teaching resources into the activity to explore answers; the playmat is a visual starting point rather than a complete educational programme.
  • Polyester construction: The supplier specifies a durable polyester surface with rubber backing. Follow the product's supplied care guidance rather than assuming a particular cleaning method, washing instruction or outdoor use from the image depicted.
  • Non-slip rubber backing: Position the mat on an appropriate floor and check it sits securely before use. Backing supports placement but does not guarantee stability on every surface or remove the need to keep access routes clear.
  • One chosen mat supplied: Props, figures, books and furniture used in suggested activities or lifestyle images are separate resources. Check their individual age and supervision guidance before introducing them to the play area alongside your selected mat.
  • Delivery planning: Allow up to four weeks for delivery and confirm the selected theme and size at checkout. A clear format choice helps you prepare a suitable space for the particular image and footprint you have ordered.
