Chillout Den Ball Blanket brings a distinctive, uneven texture to floor-based sensory exploration. Filled with 500 clear plastic balls, this large square blanket lets children investigate a surface that changes under gentle pressure. It can be used on its own or alongside a compatible Chillout Den, offering a different physical experience from a flat mat or ordinary cushion.
The blanket measures 120 × 120 × 10 cm and has a zip opening so an adult can remove the balls. One ball-filled blanket is supplied; the den is not included. Its appeal lies in the combination of a soft outer covering and the rounded shapes contained inside.
Set the blanket on a suitable level floor and invite the child to explore at their own pace. They might begin by pressing one area with a hand, feeling where an individual ball sits or comparing two areas of the surface. The rounded filling makes the experience visibly and physically different from pressing a flat cushion.
Adults can use simple questions to support exploration: can you find a raised part, what happens when you press gently, and does another area feel the same? Children can respond by pointing, showing or talking. There is no need to make the experience into a test or expect everyone to enjoy the same amount of contact.
The square format can become the centre of a short, supervised sensory activity or a feature within a compatible den arrangement. At 120 cm across, it needs a planned floor space with room around it for an adult to supervise and for the child to move away freely.
The zip opening offers another use for the filling: an adult can take the clear balls out for an appropriate separate ball-pool activity. Keep the empty cover and any storage or play enclosure suitable for the activity being offered. A ball pool or den must be supplied separately, and loose balls should be collected before the area is used for another purpose.
The Chillout Den Ball Blanket provides a concrete starting point for words such as round, raised, soft, firm and uneven. An adult can describe what the child is already doing: pressing with a palm, touching with fingertips or moving from one part of the blanket to another. This links language to an immediate experience.
In a learning setting, a short individual introduction can help staff understand a child's preferences before offering the resource in a shared area. The aim is to provide an accessible experience that the child can choose to explore, with the pace and positioning adapted to them.
The ball-filled construction offers a readily noticeable texture across a generous floor area. The removable filling gives the resource flexibility, while the clear balls have a simple appearance that works alongside many different room themes. It is a practical choice when you want to introduce a specific tactile experience and allow time for close observation.
Use with adult supervision and allow the user to move away freely. Keep the head and face uncovered; do not use as sleeping bedding or to restrict movement. Adults should manage the zip and loose balls, check the cover and seams before use and follow the supplied cleaning instructions. Moisture resistance does not mean the blanket should be immersed in water.
